Milestone in South Korea’s casino industry as Mohegan Inspire opens its doors

South Korea’s casino industry has been witnessing a significant transformation with the grand opening of the Mohegan Inspire entertainment resort on Yeongjong Island, near Seoul. This event marks a new chapter in the country’s casino industry, which is a multi-trillion South Korean won industry.

The Mohegan Inspire, following a series of soft openings over the last six months, has now officially opened its doors to the public. The resort boasts an exclusive casino, which is currently the largest in Korea and is primarily targeted towards international visitors.

In addition to the casino, the resort features a 5-star hotel with over 1,200 rooms, the Inspire Arena – a multi-purpose indoor venue with a capacity of 15,000, and the soon-to-be-opened Inspire Mall. These facilities are expected to significantly enhance the visitor experience, making Mohegan Inspire a premier destination for entertainment and leisure.

The opening ceremony was a grand affair, showcasing a fusion of cultures from around the world. It included performances by emerging Korean musicians and a Mohegan drum group, which performed the “Honour Song” to celebrate the union of the two communities. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was marked by a traditional Mohegan smudge ceremony, symbolizing the resort’s commitment to mutual respect, collaboration, and relationship building.

Growth for South Korea’s casino industry

The celebrations, (pictured above), were held at the heart of Inspire, the Rotunda, which serves as a versatile hub for the complex and houses Korea’s most expansive ballroom1. Mohegan President and CEO Ray Pineault expressed that their journey in South Korea has been guided by the Spirit of Aquai, Mohegan’s guiding principle that emphasizes hospitality, mutual respect, collaboration, and relationship building.

The Inspire Integrated Resort is wholly owned and operated by Mohegan, a tribal US operator that owns, operates, and develops eight entertainment-integrated resorts in Korea and across North America. This venture signifies Mohegan’s commitment to expanding its global footprint and contributing to the growth of South Korea’s casino industry.

South Korea’s casino industry, which is the fourth largest in the world and the second largest in the Asia-Pacific region, is expected to benefit greatly from this development. The Mohegan Inspire resort, with its world-class facilities and commitment to providing an exceptional visitor experience, is set to become a landmark in the Korean casino landscape.
