Mohegan Inspire, an integrated entertainment and casino resort, is well on its way to becoming the largest of its kind in Northeast Asia upon completion of all four phases in South Korea.

The resort is poised to open its doors by the end of this year, adjacent to Incheon International Airport, with Phase 1 construction already reaching an impressive 63 percent completion.

Collaboration with Light & Wonder

Inspire Entertainment Resort. (pictured above), is the Korean entity of the U.S. indigenous-operated entertainment and gaming brand Mohegan. Management and directors held a press conference at the construction site on Yeongjong Island, showcasing the progress. Mohegan also recently announced a systems agreement with Light & Wonder for the casino, scheduled to open in late 2023. The full installation will include Light & Wonder’s slots and table games. The casino will be exclusively available for foreign players.

South Korea is Mohegan’s eighth casino venture

Spanning a vast 4.3 million square meters, approximately the size of Yeouido Island on the Han River, the cason resort is a significant endeavor by indigenous developer and operator Mohegan, known for operating seven properties in North America, including Las Vegas. Mohegan. Inspire in South Korea will mark the company’s eighth venture.

The Phase 1 construction, a remarkable 2 trillion won (US $1.49 billion) project, comprises a three-tower luxury hotel with 1,275 rooms, a state-of-the-art 15,000-seat arena designed to host concerts and sporting events, and a foreigner-only casino featuring 700 slot machines. Additionally, the resort will house an all-year indoor water park, a grand ballroom spanning 10,000 square meters, a state-of-the-art convention facilities, a themed park, and a dining and retail shopping mall area.

Premium entertainment and casino facilities

Mohegan is renowned for its expertise in constructing and managing integrated accommodations with top-notch entertainment and casino facilities. The arena, a focal point of the development, will hold captivating K-pop performances and sporting events, aiming to attract foreign visitors and promote Korean culture through live entertainment and art.

The resort’s strategic location near the airport is intended to drive business from various countries in the Asia Pacific region. The directors said that the resort aims to host meetings and contribute to the region’s economy.

Mohegan Inspire’s construction is slated to be completed in collaboration with partner Hanwha by September. Although part of the resort are expected to open in September this year, the entire resort is anticipated to be fully operational by the first quarter of 2024, contingent on securing the necessary hotel rating and casino licence.

In terms of employment, Mohegan Inspire confirmed that the project is  generating around 3,000 direct jobs during the current construction phase, with many more indirect opportunities arising in the region after its launch.

With an eye on the future, the resort’s blueprint for the next construction phase will be confirmed very soo after the initial opening, promising even more excitement and growth for the gaming sector in the region.
