Sportradar extends UEFA collaboration with expanded partnership

Sportradar, an established sports data company, has extended its long-standing partnership with UEFA, the governing body of European football. The new multi-year deal expands Sportradar’s rights to non-exclusive distribution of UEFA data to non-betting media outlets. Additionally, Sportradar will gain access to advanced player tracking data, enhancing its AI-powered products and services.

This agreement covers all UEFA competitions, including the prestigious Champions League, Europa League, and upcoming Women’s Euros. With the addition of new formats for UEFA Club Competitions, Sportradar will now offer data for over 900 matches each season.

Carsten Koerl, CEO of Sportradar, said, “We are thrilled to expand our partnership with UEFA, offering our clients and football fans worldwide unparalleled engagement and value through cutting-edge solutions and comprehensive data coverage. This agreement supports our strategic focus on selectively investing in long-term rights across key global sports, enabling ongoing innovation and enhancement of our offerings.”

The partnership also emphasises Sportradar’s unwavering commitment to continued collaboration on anti match-fixing efforts. Sportradar will provide UEFA’s Anti Match-Fixing Unit with dedicated resources for investigation, bet monitoring, and educational programmes, ensuring the integrity and security of the game.

This extension strengthens Sportradar’s position in the European football market, following similar deals with Bundesliga International and the USL. It also positions the company to leverage advanced tracking data, potentially from competitor Genius Sports, for further innovation.

This expanded partnership between Sportradar and UEFA will provide richer data experiences for fans and media while upholding the integrity of European football competitions.

Emergence of prodigies

As UEFA’s influence continues to grow, new young prodigies keep emerging in the industry. For example Ansu Fati is currently the top young goal scorer in the UEFA Champions League. At just 17 years old, Fati made history by scoring the winning goal for Barcelona against Inter Milan during the 2019/20 group stage. This achievement broke the previous record held by Peter Ofori-Quaye which he held for 154 days.

During the 2022/23 season, Antonio Nusa of Club Brugge became the second-youngest scorer in Champions League history. He came off the bench and scored a goal against Porto in a dominant 4-0 victory, solidifying his place in history books.

This prestigious list boasts other recognisable names who made their mark at a young age. Stars like Mateo Kovačić, Cesc Fàbregas, and Jude Bellingham who is highly touted, all found the net early in their Champions League career.. Notably, Bellingham’s goal for Dortmund against Manchester City came just weeks after another 17-year-old sensation, Jamal Musiala, netted for Bayern Munich against Lazio.
