Japan: Osaka IR opening date officially removed

Osaka has officially removed the anticipated launch date for the Osaka IR, COVID-19 being the suspected cause

Official documents for Osaka reveal that the launch date for Osaka Integrated Resort (IR) on Yumeshima Island has been removed. The news follows extensive delays to the launch for Osaka IR with COVID-19 as a presumed cause.

Originally, the Integrated Resort was set to open before the 2025 World Expo, yet due to COVID-19 this was pushed back to 2028. The Nikkei contend that the decision to exclude a specific timeframe for the project was done with the struggling operators in mind.

Now, the future of the Osaka IR is up in the air.

In similar news, Japan’s Wakayama prefecture is envisioning a Las Vegas style casino resort on a privately owned 58.3 acre land in the Marina City.
