May 2021 GGR of Macau quintuples

Compared to the same period of 2020, the Macau GGR in May has risen by 492%

MacauSkylineAccording to Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, the GGR of Macau has reached a sum of MOP10,45 billion for May 2021, adding up to a record increase of 492% in revenue when compared to May 2020. This staggering amount clearly shows the normalization of the industry as the effects of the pandemic slowly subside and counter-measures are lifted.

The revenue increased by 24% compared to April 2021, and is the highest monthly GGR of Macau since the beginning of the year. This is also due to a 40% increase of visitors surrounding the Chinese Golden Week which celebrates the five labour holiday period. Golden Weeks typically see a major spike in tourism, and subsequently. Most visitors were coming in from mainland China.

On May 1, the peak of the visitors influx had 45,000 tourists visit Macau within 24 hours.

The local GGR has now risen substantially for the third month in a row, after a slight drop in February. Sincere staff vaccination efforts by local gaming operators has enabled Covid countermeasures to be lifted.
