Pennsylvania online gambling revenues break new record high in August

Last month’s total gaming revenue hit more than $310.7 million setting a new record for the state

The online gambling market in Pennsylvania, in the United States, has seen a significant growth this month. Revenue in the region has soared by 1544.1%, from 3.4 million USD in August 2019 (the first full month of the event) to 55.9 million USD setting a new record for the state.

On October 30, 2017, Pennsylvania became the fourth state in the United States to legalise online gambling, allowing residents to place bets and purchase lotto through the Internet, becoming the first state in the United States to allow both online gambling and online lotto.

Due to the growth of gaming and sports betting, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said that Pennsylvania’s total gaming revenue in August increased by 5.8% year-on-year. Although the state still needs to take certain measures to restrict global public health incidents, total gambling revenue in August was 310.4 million US, an increase from 293.4 million US in the same period last year and 9.6% higher than in July this year.

Slot machines are still the main source of income for licensed operators. Players placed more than US$1.06 billion in wagers that month, with a total revenue of US$39.6 million.

The gaming industry in Pennsylvania developed rapidly in 2018, with revenue exceeding 300 million US in March, breaking the single-month gaming revenue record in the past five years.

According to the Associated Press, Pennsylvania’s gaming industry has the highest tax revenue in any state, and the total scale has also reached the second largest in the country, second only to Nevada.
