Spanish football collaborates with SIGMA against fraudulent gambling

With an objective to raise awareness to its campaign against illegal sports betting, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has formed an alliance with SIGMA, a leading global research firm specializing in the betting market. The collaboration, part of a comprehensive effort in partnership with the Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DJOG), signifies a crucial step forward in the RFEF’s mission to detect and prevent fraudulent practices associated with sports gambling.

Regulatory authority safeguards sports integrity

Pedro Rocha, President of the RFEF Management Committee, spoke about the responsibility of football as a societal role model and the imperative to combat anything compromising the integrity of competition and the sporting spirit. “To be a true example, we must ensure equal opportunities, the safety and protection of all those who play the game, and, of course, its cleanliness,” Rocha explained.

Under the agreement, the RFEF will actively contribute data to counter corruption linked to the manipulation of sports competitions, aligning with SIGMA’s expertise in global betting market research.

Professional sports licences

This collaborative effort extends to sharing information on possession of professional sports licences by individuals suspected of engaging in fraudulent or suspicious activities related to sports betting, including players and coaches.

Rocha emphasized the RFEF’s commitment to transparency, collaboration with institutions, and support for relevant security forces in the ongoing battle against illegal sports betting. He stressed the importance of safeguarding football and maintaining its integrity.

The written agreement underscored how such corrupt activities undermine the interests of participants and operators in the sector, constituting one of the greatest threats to the world of sports.

Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling

Mikel Arana, Director General of the DGOJ, expressed gratitude to the RFEF for its dedication to clean betting, highlighting the significance of football embodying the true values of sport. He emphasized the firm will of the DGOJ to prosecute illegal rigging of sports events, announcing intentions to incorporate new players into the global betting market investigation service for enhanced efficiency and strength.

This strategic partnership between the RFEF and SIGMA reinforces the commitment to fair play and integrity within the gaming industry, setting a precedent for collaborative efforts against fraudulent gambling practices.
