UK gambling commission introduces tighter measures to guarantee player safety

This ensures that consumers are further protected following new evidence showing gamblers being at a greater risk of harm during lockdown

The UK gambling commission has just published additional guidelines for remote operators to adhere to during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. This new guidance covers social responsibility code provision 3.4.1 and customer interaction in which new rules were added to protect players who may become vulnerable to the effects of potential problem gambling in these difficult times.

Remote operators should adhere to additional guidelines published by the UK Gambling Commission during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis

Specifically, remote operators must do “Reviews of all thresholds and triggers used to track vulnerability to ensure that they reflect changed financial circumstances that many consumers will be experiencing.”

Systems that are in place to identify players and customers who may be susceptible to gambling harm need to be enhanced and improved even further. The Gambling Commission states further that “All licensees must interact with customers in a way which minimises the risk of customers experiencing harms associated with gambling.

The commission further asks the operators to “Specifically, review your time indicators to capture play in excess of 1 hour as this is a proxy for potential harm.”

A while ago the commission prevented reverse withdrawal options for customers until further notice. The full list of measures that operators are required to implement can be viewed here.
