Macau, Singapore, Philippines among ‘hottest’ casino sites, research says

Macau has firmly established itself as the top casino destination worldwide, securing the highest score in the 2024 Global Casino Index by OLBG.com, a United Kingdom-based sports betting and tipster community.

Macau, often called the “Las Vegas of the East,” ranks first with 9.32 points. Known for its luxurious casinos and vibrant nightlife, China’s Special Administrative Region (SAR) continues to attract gaming enthusiasts from around the globe.

Other Asian countries on the list are Singapore and the Philippines. Singapore has also made its mark as a premier casino destination, ranking fourth with a score of 6.84. The city-state is renowned for its world-class casino resorts, such as Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa, offering a blend of opulence and entertainment that appeals to both casual and high-stakes gamblers.

Manila has caught the attention of international gamers. The capital city of the Philippines secured the sixth spot with an index score of 6.68 out of 10. The city boasts an average of 48.21 table games per casino and recorded 94,200 annual casino-related searches from May 2023 to April 2024. The ranking considered various factors, including the number of casinos per 1,000 people, the average number of restaurants per casino, and the average daily rate of local Airbnb rentals.

Top ten list

Rounding up the top ten list are Philadelphia, Las Vegas, and New Orleans in the US; Calgary, Canada; Vienna, Austria; and Brisbane and Melbourne in Australia.

Rise in casino searches

OLBG noted a significant global increase in searches for “casinos near me” by 50 percent last year, with a 76.68 percent surge in the UK. OLBG, the flagship of Invendium Ltd., operates several leading sports betting sites in Europe. With a claimed membership of 50,000 and millions of daily visits, OLBG provides betting tips and strategies and publishes betting odds on various events, including political races and entertainment shows.

Affordable destination: Manila

OLBG also ranked Manila as one of the most affordable destinations for gamers, with an average Airbnb daily rate of £37.21 (€44.20), placing it second after Bogotá, Colombia, with an average rate of £35.19 (€41.80).

“Manila, the capital of the Philippines, offers the second most affordable Airbnbs in our study. With 14 casinos in the city, it is a fantastic destination for visitors to enjoy a night at the casino after soaking up the city’s unique Spanish-influenced culture,” the site noted.

Growth in Philippine gaming revenues

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporations (PAGCOR) projects gross gaming revenues (GGR) in the country to reach PHP336 billion (€5.5 billion) in 2024, marking a 17.8 percent increase from last year’s PHP285.27 billion. This growth is attributed to the rising share of electronic games (E-Games) in the gaming industry.

In a recent report, PAGCOR revealed that the total GGR in the first quarter of 2024 reached PHP81.7 billion (€1.39 billion), an 18.54 percent increase from P68.92 billion in the same period in 2023.
